Summary
| A contract broker was an individual or group of individuals who facilitated operations between a requester and a contractor, for a fee. Essentially a middleman, a contract broker ensured that a request was carried out smoothly and that each party had only the information they needed to fulfill it. Secrecy was paramount in their trade, contract brokers might work for one or more requesters at the same time, paying with their reputation - or even their lifes - if the details of a contract from one organization were leaked to another. Often with their own network of potential contractors for every possible task, a contract broker could either contact a preferred contractor directly or wait for someone in their network to contact them looking for work. If they worked for a single employer, they were even more selective in their candidates, because the fact that they worked for an organization would incriminate that organization as the requester, which could backfire if the candidate had a grudge against that particular organization. | |
